Greeting from District Principal
Canadian International School (CIS) has been open for eight years and the students and staff have found great success in the new programs at the school. The faculty of CIS, both Korean and Canadian, have worked together to create an outstanding learning environment for Korean students. |
|
| In 2000, the West Vancouver School District assisted with the establishment of Canada International School in South Korea.
CIS was the outcome of the growing need for programs based on a global curriculum. The vision for CIS became a reality in 2001, when CIS opened to students in kindergarten through 6th grade in Kangnam, Seoul.
Using a Canadian based curriculum with Canadian certified teachers, Mr. Kim and the outstanding staff at the school are to be commended for working tirelessly to see this dream become the reality it is today. CIS has many wonderful teachers from Canada who are certified as Professional Teachers. Many teachers and staff at CIS have worked many long and hard hours to provide the best educational program for young children in Korea.
CIS is proud of its strong educational programs. CIS offers not only language programs but also British Columbia curriculum areas such as Mathematics, Sciences, Social Studies, Music, and Art.
The program uses many British Columbia school system textbooks and other learning resources. New courses have been added to the curriculum in order to continue the CIS goal of providing a high quality education to CIS students.
The teachers and staff have developed a very successful Korean Immersion Program in West Vancouver that began in 2003.
Teachers in West Vancouver have been impressed with CIS students because the CIS students are able to participate in classroom discussions and can communicate with their Canadian classmates quite well. This demonstrates that the CIS program has given the CIS students a wonderful preparation for the British Columbia school system
At this time, West Vancouver School District and CIS are working toward the development of a new Canada International School in China that will deliver the same high quality education programs to the students in China. The project has been approved by the British Columbia Ministry of Education and will eventually offer a British Columbia High School Graduation program for Chinese students.
In closing, I wish to congratulate Mr. Kim and the CIS staff and teachers for their excellent work in establishing Canada International School as the English development program in Korea. The West Vancouver School District and I wish you all continued success in the future of the school and all the best for another successful school year
